On Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan, Christopher McDonald, famous for playing Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore, talked about his hopes for a sequel. He spills the beans that Sandler’s passed him a script draft for a possible follow-up to Happy Gilmore, hinting at some ripper progress in the story’s journey.

In 2015, The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Dennis Dugan, the bloke who directed Happy Gilmore. They asked him about the chances of a sequel with Adam Sandler. Dugan wasn’t sure, saying, “I can’t see Sandler jumping on board for that, but hey, it’s Hollywood. You never know what might come up.”

About Happy Gilmore

Released in 1996, “Happy Gilmore” is an American sports comedy directed by Dennis Dugan and produced by Robert Simonds. The film features Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and Carl Weathers. Following their collaboration on “Billy Madison” the previous year, Sandler and his writing partner, Tim Herlihy, teamed up again to work on the screenplay.

Universal Pictures released the film in theaters on February 16, 1996. Although met with mixed reviews from critics, “Happy Gilmore” proved to be a box office success, bringing in $39 million against its $12 million budget. The film also secured an MTV Movie Award for Best Fight, showcasing the memorable brawl between Sandler and Bob Barker.

Plot of Happy Gilmore

In “Happy Gilmore,” the titular character, a hot-headed failed hockey player, discovers a talent for golf when he competes in a long-drive contest to save his grandmother’s home from foreclosure. With the help of Chubbs Peterson, a former golf star, Happy enters the professional golf tour, facing off against the arrogant Shooter McGavin.

Despite struggles with his short game and distractions from Shooter’s heckling, Happy’s determination and newfound partnership with Virginia Venit propel him to success. However, Shooter’s spiteful actions escalate, leading to a dramatic showdown at the Tour Championship, where Happy triumphs with an unconventional putt, securing victory and reclaiming his grandmother’s home.
